Short version: the What's Bitin' app does not collect any data about you. No account, no tracking, no analytics, no ads — everything the app does happens on your device. This website is hosted by GoDaddy, whose servers keep standard visitor logs, as explained below.
The app does not gather, transmit, sell, or share personal information about you. There is no sign-in. The app can download our public bait & tackle shop listings from our website, and tide predictions from NOAA's public tide service, but these are one-way requests for public information — nothing about you is sent, and we receive no data identifying you.
None. What's Bitin' does not ask for, collect, or receive any personal information about you. The app never sends us your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, device identifiers, advertising identifiers, usage analytics, crash telemetry, or your catch log. Anything you create in the app — including your catch log and any photos — stays on your device (see "Information stored on your device"). When you use location features, your location is used on your device and is never sent to us; see the Location section for the one case, saving a catch's spot, where a coordinate is kept on your device.
The app remembers a few preferences so it behaves the way you left it — the region you last viewed and whether you were looking at surf or offshore. This is stored locally on your device using Apple's standard on-device storage and never leaves your phone. It is not transmitted anywhere, and we cannot see it. Deleting the app removes it.
If you use the catch log, the entries you record — species, date, location (including exact coordinates, if you add them), size, notes, and any photos you attach — are saved on your device only. They are never uploaded to us, shared, or used for anything else. Photos you take or choose are stored inside the app; deleting a catch deletes its photo, and deleting the app removes the entire log.
Sharing a catch. The one time anything from your catch log leaves your device is when you choose to share a catch from My Catches. Tapping Share sends that catch — its photo, its details, and, if you added one, its exact location — to whoever you pick, by text, email, or another app. It goes only to the person you choose; nothing is sent to us.
The seasonal information you see is bundled inside the app when you download it and updated only when you install a new version from the App Store. At runtime the app fetches two small public files from our website — our bait & tackle shop directory and our fishing-reports list (the links in the Fishing Reports section) — so both stay current without an app update. These are ordinary one-way downloads of public information; the app sends nothing about you, and the request creates no record on our side of what you looked at, searched, or tapped. Downloaded listings are cached on your device so they work offline. The app also fetches tide predictions from NOAA's public tide service when you use the tides feature (see Network access below); these too are one-way requests for public data, cached on your device for offline use.
What's Bitin' contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. Nothing in the app profiles you or follows you across other apps or websites, so there is no App Tracking Transparency prompt because there is nothing to track.
This website is hosted by GoDaddy. Like virtually all web hosts, GoDaddy's servers automatically record standard technical information when a page is requested — for example your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, referring links, and the date and time of the visit. This happens at the hosting level to deliver and secure the site; it is not something we set up to profile you, and it is separate from the app, which makes no network connection to us at all.
We do not add our own analytics, advertising, cookies, or tracking pixels to this site. We do not sell or share this hosting-log information, and we access it only if needed to keep the site running or secure. GoDaddy processes this data under its own privacy policy; see GoDaddy's Privacy Policy for details on how your host handles it.
Because the app collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children. It is suitable for general audiences.
Location is optional and used only on your device. Most features that use it do so and then forget: region detection picks the fishing region nearest you, "Find shops near me" measures the distance from you to the shops already in our directory, and the tides feature finds the NOAA tide station nearest you. For these, the app asks the system for your location a single time, uses it in that moment, and then discards it — it is never stored, never transmitted, and never linked to you.
The catch log is the one exception, because there the location is the point. If you tap "Use My Location" while logging a catch, the app saves those coordinates with that catch, on your device, so you can remember the spot. Like everything else in your catch log, this is kept only on your device and is never transmitted to us or shared. You can remove it any time by clearing the location on the catch or deleting the catch.
Every feature works if you decline location — you can still browse regions and shops by hand, and log catches without a location.
The core seasonal data works fully offline. The app makes network requests in a few cases: to download our public shop listings and our fishing-reports list (described above); to request high/low tide predictions from NOAA's public CO-OPS tide service (api.tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov); and to show Apple Maps tiles on the Map screen, which are served by Apple under Apple's own privacy terms. The tide request is a one-way request for public government data, and results are cached on your device for offline use. None of these send personal information about you to us. We operate no analytics servers and receive no data that identifies you from your use of the app. (Standard website hosting logs are covered separately in the website section above.)
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change with it. Because the app collects nothing, any change will be about clarity rather than new data practices.
